Congratulations to our Lott IMPACT Trophy finalists on an incredible NFL draft!
Three of the 2016 Lott IMPACT Trophy finalists, including winner Jabrill Peppers of Michigan, were among the first 25 selections in this year’s NFL draft.
Jonathan Allen, the defensive end from Alabama, went to the Washington Redskins with the 17th overall pick. Adoree’ Jackson, the explosive kick returner and cornerback from USC, was chosen by the Tennessee Titans with the 18th overall pick.
Peppers, another talented returner and safety, was picked by the Cleveland Browns with the 25th overall selection.
It was the second consecutive year that the winner of the Lott IMPACT Trophy was chosen by the Browns. Carl Nassib of Penn State was the 2015 winner of the Lott Trophy and was selected in the third round of the 2016 draft by Cleveland.
The fourth finalist from 2016 – Air Force safety Weston Steelhammer – was not chosen in the draft as he has military commitments. Steelhammer, who will graduate this month, will be in Washington D.C. Tuesday along with his Air Force teammates to accept the Commander In Chief Trophy from President Trump.
The annual Lott IMPACT Trophy Watch List luncheon is May 12 at The Pacific Club in Newport Beach where we will be announcing the 42 nominees for the 2017 season.
