NBA TV’s Open Court to Feature its First-Ever Roundtable with
Front Office Executives on Wednesday, Oct. 12, at 8 p.m. ET
Open Court: General Managers Edition to Discuss Nature of “Super Teams,”
Signing Franchise Players & More in Hour-Long Special
For the first time, NBA TV’s critically acclaimed Open Court series will feature a roundtable discussion with leading NBA executives as panelists on Wednesday, Oct. 12, at 8 p.m. ET. Hosted by Matt Winer, the front office experts will discuss topics including philosophies for building and rebuilding teams, executing franchise-shaping trades and the state of “super teams.”
The first-ever Open Court: General Managers Edition will offer fans a rare look inside the minds of five NBA executives – 2016 NBA Champion David Griffin of the Cleveland Cavaliers, 2008 NBA Executive of the Year Danny Ainge of the Boston Celtics, two-time NBA Executive of the Year Bryan Colangelo of the Philadelphia 76ers, 2010 NBA Executive of the Year John Hammond of the Milwaukee Bucks andNeil Olshey of the Portland Trail Blazers, who as President of Basketball Operations, reshaped a team that has made the playoffs in each of the past three seasons.
Open Court will televise its third episode, Open Court: 2016-17 Season Preview, on Tuesday, Oct. 18, at 10 p.m. Additional episodes will air throughout the 2016-17 season.
Excerpts from Open Court: General Managers Edition:
Griffin on the current player who would make the best GM: “LeBron, obviously. His basketball IQ is sensational, and he has such an understanding of the players – every role that a player is supposed to be playing on the court. He just sees through the game in a way that people don’t. He’d be the best head coach of any player currently in the game, if that is what he wanted to do.”
Colangelo on the factors players consider before joining “super teams”: “Winning is just as important as the money. What you’re seeing today is, it’s the attractiveness of the market, the amount of money, but also winning and the chance to win and really put something together. I mean, who would have thought Kevin Durant was going to leave Oklahoma City? Not me.”
Ainge on hiring Brad Stevens, a first-time NBA coach: “I wanted his freshness. I’d been in the NBA for 35 years. I liked someone coming in who was new and different and had a different perspective. In our first year, we won three or four games just with his triangle defense on out-of-bounds plays at the ends of games.”
