11 Days. 75 Games. All 30 NBA Teams. The NBA2K23 Summer League was one for the books as the event generated a record estimated $125 million economic impact for the city of Las Vegas.

The 18th annual Las Vegas Summer League, co-founded by HallPass Media CEO & President, Albert Hall, along with his VSL Properties business partner, Warren LeGarie, broke records across the board in 2022; the most notable being its estimated $125 million stimulus of the local Las Vegas economy.

Taking place July 7-17th, the event drew a grand total of 130,015 basketball fans to the campus of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas where games took place at both UNLV’s Thomas & Mack Center and COX Pavilion.

Concurrently, basketball fans across the globe tuned into the action from home, setting new record numbers in television viewership.

NBA SUMMER LEAGUE HAS ESTIMATED RECORD $125M ECONOMIC IMPACT FOR CITY OF LAS VEGAS

Summer League’s estimated economic impact can be illustrated, in part, through the increased economic activity that took place in the Las Vegas hotel, restaurant, entertainment & transportation industries, consequentially providing an economic boost for both the business and individuals in each of these respective industries. Since its inception in 2004, the NBA Summer League has continued to generate substantial economic gains throughout Las Vegas and Clark County.

In the ideal location to host what’s become the basketball festival of the year, the congregation of NBA league personnel, personnel from each of the NBA’s thirty (30) teams, basketball professionals from around the world in addition to an average daily total of 11,820 fans per day, the Summer League yielded an aggregate approximate number of confirmed hotel accommodations north of seventy thousand (70,000) room nights during the preparation and execution of the event.

NBA SUMMER LEAGUE BROADCAST VIEWERSHIP UP 34% FROM 2021

In addition to the economic boost seen in the local Las Vegas community, the NBA2K23 Summer League also saw a significant, 34% up-tick in viewership with millions of fans engaging with the event from outside of the Las Vegas city limits.

Fans globally watched more than 22 million hours of Summer League action across the world’s leading sports broadcast networks like ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU and NBA TV.

Catching their first glimpses of tomorrow’s brightest NBA stars competing in their inaugural matches as a professional, fans far and wide were also able to view each of the NBA2K23 Summer League’s seventy-five (75) games on their favorite devices as the event’s proceedings were broadcast across immensely popular streaming services such as ESPN+, the ESPN App, YouTubeTV, Hulu+, etc.

NBA SUMMER LEAGUE BOASTS RECORD 24 PARTNER ACTIVATIONS

The NBA2K23 Summer League is proud to have played host to a record number of partnership activations (24), including the likes of Nike, Google, Las Vegas Events, AT&T and title sponsor, 2K Sports.

Playing host to experimental activations & innovations, the Summer League has proven to be not only a world stage for the next generation of NBA talent, but it’s also become an incubator for a number of innovative initiatives in technology, fashion, health, the metaverse and many other sectors of the modern landscape that are looking to integrate themselves within the ever-expanding world of basketball.

One of the more innovative initiatives of the NBA2K23 Summer League was unveiled at the NBA Launchpad event that provides access to research & development opportunities, as well as exposure, to rigorously vetted companies that aim to improve the game of basketball through technology.

VIRAL IN VEGAS – 633 MILLION SOCIAL MEDIA VIEWS

Retweets, reposts and replays were just a few ways fans interacted with Summer League curated content. The social media impressions that the NBA2K23 Summer League generated reached an all-time high of 633 million views, and climbing, surpassing 2021 predecessor by a whopping 58%.

Both on and off the court, Summer League moments of all kinds were captured & shared amongst fans, players, influencers & the NBA alike. These social media posts included on-court highlights, celebrity & VIP appearances, fashion spotlights, fan engagements, and everything else under the hot desert sun.

The NBA2K23 Summer League also hosted it’s first-ever Influencer Games where four (4) teams comprised of some of the basketball world’s most popular social media influencers were pitted against each other in a winner-take-all tournament. Thousands of fans showed up to see the game in person and across the followings of these respective influencers, Summer League content was distributed to tens of millions of followers with hundreds of millions of impressions.

NBA SUMMER LEAGUE MERCHANDISE SALES SETS NEW RECORD

Like the desert heat that hosted the event, this year’s NBA2K23 Summer League gear was hotter than Las Vegas in July.

Fans left the stadium with a full day’s worth of NBA hoops under their belt and a bag’s worth of a revamped closet under their arm. New styles and designs proved to be a hit as this year’s Summer League merchandise sales surpassed the previous merchandise sales record of the 2019 Las Vegas Summer League by ten 10%, and counting.

NEW CHAMPIONSHIP HARDWARE AND BLING

To top off an excellent return to form, the NBA Summer League unveiled the first ever Championship Rings and a newly designed Championship Trophy awarded to the 2022 Champion Portland Trailblazers.
