The Atlanta Gauntlet and the first round of the Regional Qualifiers have officially wrapped up, giving a few teams the chance to separate from the pack. Dream Vision (CA) left Atlanta as the last undefeated team in the Gauntlet sitting at a comfortable (9-0) with the help of 9th ranked class of 2020 prospect Kyree Walker. Other teams that displayed moments of dominance include Compton Magic (8-1), Stackhouse Elite (8-1), Indiana Elite (8-1), Team Carroll (8-1), D1 Minnesota (7-1), Exum Elite (7-2), Team Knight (7-2), and Team CP25 (7-2).
Both weekends produced high profile games with exciting individual matchups between the best high school players in the world. At the Los Angeles Regional, Kyree Walker and Dream Vision (9-0) battled an EBO team (6-3) led by Jalen Green. In the most hyped matchup of the weekend, Dream Vision walked away with a 67-61 win despite 18 points from Green. Moving onto Atlanta, Kyree Walker dropped 16 to lead Dream Vision (9-0) past a very talented Basketball University squad (7-2).
Standout players from The Gauntlet Series, up to this point, are Compton Magic’s Evan Mobley who has scored in double digits all 9 games and is averaging 15.3 ppg and 5.7 rpg. For Stackhouse Elite, Jalen Benjamin leads the team averaging just under 17 ppg while shooting 43.4% from the beyond the arc. Heading into the summer, top-ranked class of 2020 recruit Jalen Green, was hyped as the player to watch at this year’s Gauntlet. So far Green has not disappointed averaging 18.4 ppg, making it onto Sportcenter’s Top 10 plays of the week, and carrying his EBO team to a 6-3 record. Other notable players who continue to light up the scoreboards include, Quincy Guerrier who is averaging 26 ppg with 7.3 rpg for Brookwood Elite and Jaemyn Brakefield who is averaging 26.6 ppg and shooting 51 percent from the field for OSAG.
Up next in the Gauntlet series are regional qualifiers in Los Angeles, Chicago, and Washington D.C on May 25-27 as well as two more regionals in Atlanta and Dallas on May 26-28. Following the conclusion of all regional qualifiers, there will be a Gauntlet Finale in New York City on July 12-15 as well as the Los Angeles Summer Championship on July 18-22.
